Opened in 1931 and promptly unusable, the Red River bridge between Love and Cooke counties looked good, but that's about it.

In 1929, the U.S. legislature wanted to eliminate toll bridges across the Red River (and other places) due to scandalous behavior.

The Cossatot River derives from a French word meaning"crushed head," and in 1833, it was to be spanned by a toll bridge.

The "Willis Bridge" now connects Oklahoma to Texas over Lake Texoma along US 377.
